about

Mystery musician Oldowan Vibrations crafts straight-forward rhythms performed on early 1980s analogue gear: the Roland JX-8P synthesizer and the TR-606 drum machine. The Boss HC-2 and PC-2 provide hand claps and other percussive quirks in the set. This album’s production is as simple and gritty as its sonic palate, mixed in a glorious mono to bring out the hard candy center of each Vibration.

The Oldowan Vibrations debut begins with nothing but 606 riddims, adding one new sound from the JX-8P on each track through the first half of the album. The second half of the album pulls away one sound from each subsequent track until we are again left with nothing but the raw drum machine. The album is mostly recorded and mixed from one single performance.

Though Oldowan Vibrations delights in the simplicity of its sounds, the music explores a depth of influences from early hip-hop and electro to classic arcade games and pinball machines.
